This paper proposes a modular and extensible architecture for enabling new services in digital TV (DTV) receivers by leveraging existing resources from the DTV Play environment. The solution organizes system components into well-defined layers and exposes internal functionalities through a standardized REST interface, allowing integration with external applications such as IoT devices, cloud services, and mobile apps. The architecture was validated through four practical scenarios: remote control via mobile app, cloud-based recommendation, privacy-preserving mobile recommender, and low-memory media sharing. The results demonstrate the feasibility of extending DTV capabilities in a secure, interoperable, and low-impact manner without modifying the existing middleware.
